How we opened up our business during a pandemic

Isn't it ironic how we think a 4 month long lockdown would hinder our business growth, but in fact allowed our business to bloom and blossom.... Read on to find out how we grew our business amidst Sydney's covid-19 lockdown in 2021.

Art on the Gogh had their official launch on June 19, 2021, only 1 week before Sydney's 4 month lockdown. As a first time business owner, and as any human, we were concerned and feared what was yet to come for Art on the Gogh.

We reached out to a few friends with a better understanding of how to run a business - yet we pondered how do you manoeuvre a small startup business during lockdown. Least to say, lockdown provided us with such an immense learning curb. During these 4 months, we learned how to create content on social media, manage our finances as a startup business, sell our services without being too 'salesy', host virtual paint and sips via zoom, send out and pack hundreds of art kits and all at the same time as enjoying the entire journey. To put it simply, its been a rollercoaster of emotions.

Crazy thing was, Art on the Gogh had sprouted so well that we were then featured in the Daily Telegraph. The journalist kindly showcased how we transitioned our paint and sip business through lockdown.

Tips for running a business mid-pandemic

Here are some things we've picked up and learned whilst growing a business mid-pandemic.

  • If you're anything like me and have no clue in running a business, find yourself a good business coach. To be completely transparent, they aren't cheap. But from what you pay, you're getting invaluable knowledge and skills to be able to confidently run your business.

  • Get social! Reach out far and wide on the socials - Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn. Create connections and build relationship with your potential customers.

  • Put your face out there! People love and trust a face. Running a business these days is all about building relationships.

  • Enjoy the process. First year in business is like a rollercoaster in Dreamworld. Allowing yourself to accept and appreciate the ups and downs of running a business is key. You only get one first year in business.

So now 10 months after our official launch, we hosted mobile paint and sip experiences for Staff wellbeing week, hens nights, bridal showers, kids birthdays, girls days and many more. Its crazy to see how far Art on the Gogh has travelled and we're excited to have you along this journey to see our continual growth.
